TERMS OF USE
Terms of use
Plain-English terms for using this site. We've kept the legal-boilerplate part short and the practically-important parts up top.

Use of the site
You're welcome to read, link to, and quote brief excerpts of articles for personal, non-commercial purposes with attribution and a link back. You may not republish whole articles, scrape the site to train commercial AI models, or use the content to build a competing product without written permission.
What we promise — and don't
We make a real effort to be accurate, current, and honest. We cite our sources, we flag uncertainty, and we correct mistakes when they're pointed out. With that said:
- The site is provided as is. Building science, mold remediation, indoor-air-quality regulation, and medical understanding all evolve; an article that's right today may be incomplete in two years.
- Every house is different. A practice that works in one climate, building type, or context may not work in another.
- Product recommendations reflect our best judgment at the time of writing, based on public specs and (where noted) hands-on testing — not lab certification.
- We are not responsible for outcomes from work you, a contractor, or anyone else does based on information from the site. Use professional judgment.
Health information
Articles that discuss symptoms, illness, or recovery describe what mainstream public health and the published literature recognize, and where appropriate, where the experts disagree. None of it is a substitute for evaluation by a qualified clinician. If you are sick or worried about your health, see a doctor.
Affiliate links and product recommendations
Some links on the site are affiliate links — see our Disclosures page for the full picture. We do not warrant any third-party product, service, or company linked from this site, and we are not responsible for anything that happens once you leave our site.
User-submitted content
If you email us, comment on a future post (when comments are enabled), or reply to our newsletter, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to reference that content on the site (in anonymized form unless we explicitly ask permission to use your name). Don't email us anything you wouldn't want quoted; we'll always anonymize unless asked otherwise, but please use judgment.
Intellectual property
The text, photographs, illustrations, and design of This Moldy House are © 2026 the publisher unless otherwise noted. Source materials we cite (EPA, CDC, IICRC, etc.) belong to their respective owners and are used under fair use or applicable open licenses.
Logos, trademarks, and product names mentioned on the site belong to their respective owners. Mention of a product or company is not an endorsement by them and does not imply any relationship beyond what is disclosed.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. The "last updated" date reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be communicated through the site or newsletter.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the publisher is domiciled, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles.
